Laser and energy-based treatments: the lowdown
Despite what social media might tell you, you don't need injectables to have great skin.
What I see in clinic
Perimenopausal skin often shows a combination of pigmentation, fine lines, enlarged pores, thinning skin, sun damage and early laxity. For women who live an active coastal lifestyle, sun damage is almost universal, and in my experience it's the most underrated driver of skin concerns. No matter what your injector tells you, you can't fix sun-damaged, unhealthy skin with injectables.
That's why lasers and energy-based devices are the treatment I most want my patients to consider. They're versatile in downtime and impact, they can address several concerns in one visit, and they stimulate your own collagen. Laser can reduce pigmentation and redness to "clean up the canvas", soften lines and help minimise scarring. A course of IPL or UltraClear can do wonders for pigmented, tired, sun-damaged skin. Vascular laser can significantly improve redness and rosacea, and UltraClear Laser Coring is showing promising results in reducing loose skin and improving skin laxity, without surgery. There's a laser for every concern, person and skin type.
Personally, lasers have transformed my skin: it looks better now than it did 10 years ago. The trick is consistency: once you have your results, maintain them with treatment a few times a year.
Our treatment philosophy
Many of the women I see don't want injectables at all. Others choose a subtle, measured amount, layered with laser and medical-grade skincare. Our philosophy is several treatments working together, each addressing a different layer of the skin. That's how you get natural results from non-surgical cosmetic medicine.
You wouldn't run a marathon without training, and the same goes for your skin. If you want to "do laser", especially resurfacing laser, we start with the foundation: optimising metabolism and hormones, repairing the skin barrier and using SPF daily. Most of my patients begin with the 12-Week Skin Reset. It balances skin, hormones and metabolic health, sets up a good skincare routine, and restores the barrier with gentle long-pulsed lasers and superficial peels. Once the skin is stable, we move on to corrective treatments: IPL and vascular laser for pigmentation and redness, UltraClear for sun damage and texture, and Laser Coring for skin laxity.
With this approach, healing is usually faster, downtime is shorter, and the risk of complications is kept as low as possible. Happy patient, happy clinical team. Your progress is predictable, with results you can plan around a busy life. That's why we offer a treatment journey, not just a treatment.
Feeling overwhelmed by all the options?
I hear you. There are so many lasers and treatments out there, and so much conflicting advice. The good news is that at our clinic, it isn’t up to you to choose the right treatment. Read and learn as much as you like, but you don’t need to have the answer before you walk in. Tell us what’s bothering you, how much downtime you can manage and what you’re hoping for, and we’ll take it from there. In time, I’d love you to feel you can trust us enough to outsource your skin to us. Let us take this one off your to-do list!
