UltraGlow: Thrive’s Signature Collagen-Banking Treatment for Perimenopausal Skin
Overview UltraGlow is Dr Grant's own innovation, developed specifically for perimenopausal skin — pairing the precision of our UltraClear laser with application of a premium bio-revitalising serum to help stimulate collagen and healthy skin. It isn't a resurfacing laser, and it isn't a facial. It's a more refined evolution of microneedling, built for skin that needs extra care.
How It Works UltraGlow uses the UltraClear laser on the low-energy Ultra Mode setting, combined with a premium bio-revitalisation serum. The laser creates fine micro-channels with heat, triggering fibroblast activity to prompt new collagen production. The serum is then delivered through these channels, nourishing the skin with ingredients that support fibroblast function to build healthy skin and boost collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid production. Combining heat and nutrients this way allows two complementary actions to work together in one treatment — a guiding principle of Dr Grant's approach.
Indications UltraGlow can be performed at any age and at any time of year, on almost any area of the body — face, neck, decolletage, arms, knees and more. Dr Grant designed it specifically to address common concerns in perimenopausal and post-menopausal skin, such as dullness, thinning skin, early laxity and textural changes like enlarged pores and fine lines. It also suits patients in their twenties and thirties wanting a "prejuvenation" approach — building collagen early, with a more effective clinical result than microneedling alone. UltraGlow is a good option for patients happy to accept 2–3 days of downtime who may not be ready for a full resurfacing laser, as well as those with more sensitive skin, or older patients wanting to build collagen without visible peeling.
Treatment Plan Before starting treatment you will need an integrated medical consultation, during which time a treatment plan will be customised to your concerns. A typical course is 3 sessions spaced 4 weeks apart, with maintenance every 3–6 months.
How To Prepare Avoid Vitamin C, Vitamin A (retinol) and exfoliants in the treatment area for 3 days prior to your treatment. Do not use spray tan or expose the skin to sun, wind or environmental extremes for two to three weeks before treatment. If you have a history of cold sores in the treatment area, please let our team know before your appointment. We also ask you to maintain a healthy, high-protein diet in the six weeks before and during your treatment course — your skin can only be as healthy as the growth factors and building blocks (protein, zinc and vitamin C) it has available to make new skin cells.
What To Expect Treatment takes around 30 - 60 minutes depending on the treatment area. We apply a strong topical anaesthetic beforehand for your comfort, so most patients feel only warmth as the laser passes over the skin, with any discomfort generally well tolerated.
DownTime In the first 24 hours you may notice some pinpoint bleeding and mild swelling — a normal part of your skin's dermal remodelling response — along with redness similar to a microneedling treatment. The treated area generally settles within 2–3 days. Small dots may appear on the skin in the days following treatment, particularly if you have deeper pigmentation. Most patients would return to their normal activities after 1- 2 days.
Risks As with all heat-based treatments, there's a risk of cold sore reactivation or blistering. If you have a history of cold sores, use antiviral medication prescribed prior to your treatment. If you develop a blister please contact the clinic straight away. There is also a risk of infection and scarring - you can reduce this by keeping the area clean and dry, avoiding picking, following the post-treatment care we give you, and skipping makeup for the first few days. Pigmentation change is a risk with any heat-based laser, which is why sun avoidance and daily SPF matter throughout your course.
Cost Treatment cost is determined at consultation based on your individual plan. A personalised quote is provided at your initial consultation.
FAQS Q: Is UltraGlow just a fancy facial? A: No — UltraGlow is a clinical laser treatment, not a facial. It uses a precision ablative laser on a dermal setting to trigger collagen production in a way that mechanical treatments like peels or microneedling alone cannot match.
Q: Why does perimenopausal skin respond better to heat based treatments, not just microneedling? A: As oestrogen declines, skin becomes less responsive to needle-only stimulation like microneedling. Heat is a stronger, more reliable trigger for collagen production, as it actiavtes different heat medicated pathways to rejuvenate skin. This is why we have chosen to use laser-delivered heat rather than needles alone.
Q: Will UltraGlow be painful? A: We use a strong topical anaesthetic beforehand for your comfort. The sensation is usually described as a warm shower across the skin, delivered on a lower-energy setting than our standard UltraClear protocol. This warmth typically lasts 30–60 minutes after treatment before fading over the following hours.
Q: Can I treat more than just my face with UltraGlow? A: Yes — UltraGlow is often customised to treat just the face, face and neck, or face, neck and decolletage together, depending on your concerns. Other areas of the body can also be treated, and your treatment area will be tailored to you at consultation.
Q: When will I see results from UltraGlow? A: Most patients notice a difference in skin brightness and tightness within a few days as any redness settles, with continued improvement in skin quality over the following 4–6 weeks as new collagen forms.
Q: How is UltraGlow different from a full UltraClear treatment? A: UltraGlow uses a lower-energy setting of the same UltraClear laser, paired with NCTF serum, to refresh and support skin quality with minimal downtime. Our standard UltraClear protocol is a more intensive resurfacing treatment for deeper concerns such as significant sun damage or textural change.
Q: Can I have UltraGlow in summer? A: Yes. Because UltraGlow doesn't involve the visible peeling of a deeper resurfacing treatment, it is low enough in energy to have through summer, unlike more intensive laser protocols that need a longer sun-avoidance window. Sun avoidance and strict SPF will still be required though, as any laser treatment can increase sun bun risk. You also need to avoid a spray tan in the few weeks prior to the treatment.
Q: Can I target a specific stubborn area, like my upper lip or jowl, with something stronger? A: Yes. Many patients choose to pair UltraGlow with a small, targeted area of Laser Coring — over the upper lip, eye region or jowl, for example — to address a specific pocket of laxity alongside their overall treatment. This can be discussed and planned as part of your treatment plan at consultation.
