Injectable Collagen Stimulators

What is a Collagen Stimulator?

Collagen stimulators (also known as biostimulators) are injectable products that work to stimulate your own body’s collagen production to restore facial volume and improve skin structure.

Dr Grant uses a variety of collagen stimulators and hybrid collagen stimulators/dermal fillers made up of different substances including PLLA (poly L lactic acid), PCL (polycaprolactone) and CaHA (calcium hydroxylapatite).

Biostimulators wiok by inciting an inflammatory response and the body makes collagen around them. Over time, the inciting agent (PLLA, PCL or CaHA) is metabolised into carbon dioxide and water, leavibg a collagen matrix behind. This causes a tightening effect in the skin, improving general skin tone, pore size, lines and wrinkles and glow.

What do Collagen stimulaors do?

The results are of Biostimulators are gradual and subtle- it takes months for to exert a physiological response, so you need to be patient. Many of our patients who are looking for natural outcomes prefer this to a sudden or “face changing” treatment. While it take a few months to see changes in the skin and soft tissue, the results are cumulative, improving over time, and can last over 2 years. Most people return for a small maintenance treatment every year or so.

Who is the Best Candidate for Collagen Stimulators

While anyone can benefit from a Biostimulator, the best candidates for Collagen stimulators are 30 - 55 years old, healthy and those who are noticed skin laxity and volume loss in the face. As a general rule, if you are older, you will need more product.

What are the risks of Collagen Stimulators?

Collagen Stimulators rarely have serious adverse effects. We will discuss the risks and how to mitigate and manage them during your consultation. The main risk of Biostimulator treatments include infection, nodule formation and inflammatory lumps.

These risks are owl, but lumps cannot be easily reversed (as opposed to with dermal fillers). However, as a medical doctor with post graduate training in aesthetics, Dr Grant is able to manage any issues independently.

To reduce risks, Dr Grant does not treat patients who have a history of multiple allergies or immune over-activation e.g. auto immune disease, or within 4 weeks of a dental procedure or significant infection. Please reschedule your appointment if these issues occur.

Dr Grant will also offer you an individual treatment plan that involves injecting collagen stimulators in certain areas of the face and body, and very specific post care advice, which must be followed to prevent adverse outcomes.

Collagen stimulators cannot be reversed- as such only advanced injectors should use them as part of their practice. In out clinic, only Dr Grant treats patients with collagen stimulators.

Booking

All patients must have an initial consultation first with Dr. Grant for facial assessment and to create an individual plan for your treatments. We prefer you to take the time to understand your treatment and options before proceeding.

Our aim is to retain your unique look but refresh your features and address volume loss and skin quality. This treatment is not immediate- it is a gradual, subtle treatment.

Procedure Time
Allow 90 minutes for a standard 2 vial treatment of one area. Please arrive makeup free.

Recommended Treatment Plan
Depending on your age and the severity of your skin concern, you may need more, or less, product. Most patients receive 2 vials per session, 2- 3 times to complete an initial course and and return each year for a maintenance treatment of 1 - 2 vials. Results last over 20 months.

What to expect
It takes patience and time to build up your own collagen- unlike dermal filler, it is not an immediate effect We will review outcomes at 6 weeks post treatment and retreat at this time if required.

Downtime / Aftercare
Mild bruising, swelling, lumps, bumps and asymmetry are common, which generally settle in 2 weeks. Ice and paracetamol may be used to manage discomfort. Mineral makeup may be applied 24 hours after your treatment.

It is very important to massage the product after you inject it, this reduces the risk of nodules. For some biostimulators, we will ask you to massage the skin 5x a day, for 5 mins, for the first 5 days.
