Dermal filler injections are composed of synthetic gels which mimic naturally occurring substances found in skin and soft tissue. Fillers offer a low cost and non surgical approach to achieve facial rejuvenation and are very popular.
Dermal fillers rejuvenate the face by restoring volume and enhancing underlying structures. It is important to consider that dermal fillers are added in small volumes- the process of volumising the face should be measured and planned in order to achieve a natural outcome.
Dermal fillers occur in different densities. Dense fillers are used to enhance bony structures such as the cheekbone and jawline, whereas softer fillers add volume to lips and infill lines. Very fine fillers called Skin Boosters are used to hydrate the skin and improve skin texture.
There is a significant amount of skill and training required to use dermal fillers properly. Your injector needs to be aware of facial anatomy (muscles and blood vessels) to prevent complications. Practitioners also need to inject the correct filler product in the correct tissue plane, as some fillers are designed to lie on top of normal bone structure and other sit superficially in the skin.
