Tixel Skin Rejuvenation

Thrive Skin Clinic is proud to introduce TIXEL® to the South Coast and Southern Highlands. TIXEL® uses a novel energy called thermo-mechanical ablation, to resurface, tighten and rejuvenate the skin. It is safe for the entire face (including the eyelids), all skin types and and all body areas. Tixel® delivers similar results to a fractional CO2 laser without the pain, downtime or risks. It is is a medical grade device and can only be used by health professionals.

How does TIXEL® work?

TIXEL® represents a new generation of ablative treatment, utilising heat and pressure as opposed to laser energy. It involves the application of a specific amount of extreme heat, (400 degrees celsius , no joke!) pressed via tiny metallic pyramids into the skin. This brief , controlled contact with the skin means that Tixel® results in a shortened downtime of only a 3-5 days. This unique technology also means it is much safer than traditional laser, allowing it to be used around the delicate skin of the eyes and even on the upper and lower eyelid- areas that until now have only been accessible through surgical techniques. This is a game changer in the field of Aesthetics!!

Tixel can also be used on less intensive settings to treat active acne, rosacea and infuse medical products into the skin, allowing for greater skin penetration and efficacy.

Outcomes

The clinical outcomes of Tixel® match that of CO2 laser and confirm improved safety, reduced downtime (usually 2-3 days) with less “char” on the skin.

Noticeable results in skin texture and clarity start 2 weeks after the first treatment. After 6 weeks, the results of collagen induction (reduced lines and skin tightening) start to appear and improve over the next 6 months

Due to its safety profile, Tixel® is the perfect treatment for non surgical eye rejuvenation for loose skin and fine lines around the eye. In fact, plastic surgeons and ophthalmologists are now using Tixel as a valuable treatment option to manage peri-orbital skin issues. Tixel is now an alternative for those clients seeking to avoid corrective eyelid surgery, or for those who would prefer a gradual, scar-free correction. Of course, it is NOT surgery, and if we think this is the best treatment option for you, we will provide you with a referral to one of our surgical colleagues.

Skin Preparation
We ask that all clients who want to use ablative settings use active home care for at least 2 weeks before treatment, in order to prepare the skin, improve healing times and reduce complications. Sun avoidance during and after the procedure is also imperative. Those with darker skin types should discuss using a compounded cream to reduce post inflammatory inflammation - this can be done with Dr Grant via Skype or in person.

Procedure Initial appointments are 20-45 minutes depending on the area treated. Most clients find the procedure tolerable, and experience the sensation of intense heat and pressure on the skin. Some clients request a topical anaesthetic- if you think this sounds like you, please arrive makeup free, 20 minutes prior to your treatment to facilitate local anaesthetic application.

Recommended Plan The initial treatment regime is 3 sessions, 4-6 weeks apart. Some clients benefit from up to 6 sessions depending on the condition being treated. We advise a top-up treatment every 9- 12 months.

Downtime / Aftercare
You should expect red, burning skin for a few hours after the treatment and ongoing redness for a few days. An antihistamine can be taken if there is an intense response. Eyelid treatment usually leaves the lids slightly swollen for a few days, but makeup can be applied after 24 hours. You must stay out of the sun and apply moisturiser and sunblock while the skin is healing. The majority of people notice redness improving by day 3-5, at which time the skin becomes dry and sandpapery. Some clients note ‘pink’ skin persisting for a few weeks, it will settle with time if you nourish the skin and stay out of the sun.

It is common to experience tiny dry dots on the skin after an ablative treatment. This may last7-10 days and can be covered with makeup. Occasionally we have seen clients experience small blisters or crusts- if this occurs you must contact us for review. DO NOT pick at the skin or try to scrub off the dots as this may lead to infection. Prepping the skin speeds up recovery. We also advise purchasing a post treatment kit to nourish the skin with light serums and moisturiser after your treatment.
