Skin needling (also known as collagen induction therapy) is a skin rejuvenation procedure that stimulates collagen and elastin and enhances the clarity and texture of skin. It is a safe, relatively inexpensive and useful for a myriad of skin conditions including the delicate areas around the eye, lip and décolletage. It is also ideal for clients with darker skin types as there is a low risk of scarring. The other benefits of micro needling are practical- it has limited downtime, can be done on a dark skin and at any time of the year.
Skin needling is a versatile treatment and is indicated for:
reducing fine lines and wrinkles
improving congestion oiliness and large pores
improving acne scars and stretch marks
improving pigment disorders
stimulating hair growth , in conjunction with other treatments
as a preventative treatment to maintain youthful skin
We also use skin needling as a primer before skin treatments, especially platelet rich plasma (PRP), as the process of microneedling enhances absorption of topical products by up to 80%. This is especially useful for hair loss treatments and PRP “vampire facials”. .
At Thrive Skin Clinic we only offer you the best medical grade microneedling device, the Dermapen 3, which is approved by the TGA and can penetrate deeper into the skin than standard deviced. This means the clinic outcomes are better.
We advise clients to apply a topical anaesthetic to the treatment are 45 minutes before treatment. This means you can have a more substantial treatment with less pain. We compound our own topical local aneasethetic (TLA) which you can purchase for a nominal fee from out clinic, or we can send out to you from the compounding pharmacy. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, most TLAs are contraindicated. You will still be able to have a treatment but we will use a lower setting.
Works well in combination with IPL, peels and dermal fillers.
We advise at least 2 weeks of prescribed skin care before and after your treatment to enhance efficacy & recovery
If you have had a cold sore in the treatment area we advise using antiviral medication before and after your treatment. Talk to us about this before your appointment
A daily home treatment with active ingredients and sun cream is encouraged to maintain healthy, beautiful skin
Can be done on occasion if pregnant or breastfeeding, but without topical local anaesthetic.
