why should use a medical grade laser and IPL machine?

Not all IPL and laser machines are created equal. Not to mention the brains driving them. Unfortunately, in NSW there is no regulation in the IPL/laser industry. This means anyone can use a laser, of any quality (read not registered, from ebay) and without any training. Scary isn’t it!?

Less expensive IPL and lasers emit inadequate and reliable energy levels and are unable to provide good outcomes. Inexperienced and untrained clinicians can use inappropriate settings, causing burns , unwanted pigmentation and scarring. IPL is one of the largest causes of medicolegal action in NSW. Increasingly, we are referred clients with iatrogenic (ie caused by the laser) pigment and unsatisfactory outcomes from our local area. Please, think twice before having a laser /IPL treatment!!

At Thrive, we have invested in a medical grade machine, the Lumenis M22, for all out IPL and laser treatments. All of our laser clinicians have their Laser Safety Certificates and undergo ongoing training in order to maintain our high clinic standards and excellent outcomes.

Despite the lack of government regulation, we have chosen to regulate ourselves internally, in order to prioritise client safety and improve outcomes.

For hair removal

IPL Hair Removal treatment targets hair follicles, impairing the ability of the follicle to grow more hair. Depending on your background skin colour, filtered pulses of light are applied to the treatment area and are selectively absorbed by the hair follicles beneath the skin surface. Surrounding skin is left untreated. You must not tan skin whilst undergoing this treatment.

For veins & vascular treatments

Laser & IPL vascular treatments enables our clinicians to effectively treat spider veins, reticular veins (blue veins), broken capillaries and rosacea using the Nd:YAG laser. Depending on the location and size of the vessel, and your background skin colour, we are able to selectively target vascular tissue, leaving surrounding skin untreated,

The laser / IPL energy heat the blood vessels, eventually causing the vein to disappear. The laser is very precise and only impacts the selected blood vessel and not of the surrounding skin. The IPL filter allows targeting of specific colours and tissues, meaning the surrounding skin is left undamaged. The sapphire tip technologies in the Lumenis system enable cooling of skin between pulses, which reduces the chance of skin damage.

For acne treatment

IPL acne treatment utilises a blue light filter that targets the specific pigment in bacteria linked to acne. In addition, using are vascular filters, we can also reduce redness and inflammation, which are commonly seen in acne.

For those clients wanting to avoid medication such as antibiotics, IPL is a non-invasive and evidenced based solution for mild to moderate inflammatory acne. IPL can also be ulilised by patients on oral medications and in this way active acne and post inflammatory scarring can be controlled much more rapidly than using medication alone.

For skin toning and tattoo removal

Our Lumenis system has a state of the art 1064 nm Q switch laser, which is excellent for skin toning, a technique aimed at reducing dermal/epidermal pigmentation, reducing pore size and deep collagen induction. We are also able to treat amateur or professional dark tattoos with our Q switch laser ( black, blue and other dark tattoos only). Q-Switch technology enables ultrashort laser pulses to target the pigment or tattoo ink in the skin and break it into small particles that can then be absorbed naturally by your immune system.
