Intense Pulsed Light (IPL/BBL) for rosacea and pigmentation
At Thrive Skin Clinic we use a high quality TGA approved dermatology laser which treats a range of conditions. All our staff have attended training courses and hold Laser Safety Certificates. We have a cautious and responsible approach to treating skin conditions. As a medical clinic, Dr Grant is able to combine laser treatments with medications to get the best outcomes.
Our IPL head treats a range of conditions including:
Rosacea / redness
Pigmentation- age spots, uneven tone
Hair growth/hair reduction
IPL treatments are not suitable for women who are pregnant, breast feeding or clients who have taken Roaccutane in the last 12 months.
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is a light treatment that breaks down pigmentation and redness, creating even tone and improving the skin texture. IPL is ideal to treat rosacea, age spots and sun-damaged skin. Our IPL is medical grade- it is not the same as IPL in a beauty salon.
Our machine has several light filters which allows us to target specific areas of the skin, leaving surrounding healthy areas intact. This reduces the risk of thermal damage and burns which may occur when using a less expensive machine. We also have a blue light acne filter which can be used to target and prevent active acne breakouts.
The IPL will feel mildly uncomfortable, like an elastic band hitting the skin. If you suffer from rosacea, we recommend using a light topical anaesthetic for the first few sessions to reduce the discomfort of your treatment. This can be purchased from our clinic for a nominal fee.
20 - 30 minutes depending on treatment area.
We may advise an Initial patch test depending on the treatment area and the your skin type. IPL is done every 2-4 weeks for 3-5 sessions.
Active acne and severe rosacea require more sessions.
Plan your treatment at least a week before a special event.
Downtime / Aftercare
Expect redness and swelling for up to 48 hours post treatment. Dark pigment may increase after treatment and then fall off/fade after a few weeks.
Example prices for common treatments:

3 IPL full face treatments for $600 with complimentary AZ prep kit.

A medicare rebate may be accessed for clients with severe rosacea where redness is visible at 3 metres.
IPL treatments are not suitable for women who are pregnant, breast feeding or clients who have taken Roaccutane in the last 12 months
It is essential you avoid tanning products and sun exposure for 2 weeks leading up and after to your treatment.
