Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is a light treatment that breaks down pigmentation and redness, creating more even skin tone and improving the texture of skin. IPL is ideal to treat rosacea, age spots and sun-damaged skin. Our IPL is medical grade- it is not the same as IPL in a beauty salon.

Our machine has several light filters which allows us to target specific areas of the skin, leaving surrounding healthy areas intact. This reduces the risk of thermal damage and burns which may occur when using a less expensive machine. We also have a blue light acne filter which can be used to target and prevent active acne breakouts.

If you suffer from rosacea, we recommend using a light topical anaesthetic for the first few sessions to reduce the discomfort of your treatment. This can be purchased from our clinic for a nominal fee.

The IPL will feel mildly uncomfortable, like an elastic band hitting the skin. You can use a topical anaesthetic to reduce the discomfort.

Procedure Time
20 - 30 minutes depending on treatment area.

Recommended Plan
We may advise an Initial patch test depending on the treatment area and the your skin type. IPL is done every 2-4 weeks for 3-5 sessions. Active acne and severe rosacea require more sessions.

Plan your treatment at least a week before a special event.

Downtime / Aftercare
Expect redness and swelling for up to 48 hours post treatment. Dark pigment may increase after treatment and then fall off/fade after a few weeks.

Special considerations

  • It is essential you avoid tanning products and sun exposure for 2 weeks leading up and after to your treatment.

  • For IPL hair reduction the area must be completely hair free. Please wax or shave night before. Do not pluck the hair or the treatment will not work.

  • Avoid active skin care until your skin has normalised after your treatment.

  • Topical anaesthetic can be purchased from us for a small fee or you can buy NUMMIT or EMLA from a pharmacy.

Example prices for common treatments:

  • IPL Full face $200

  • IPL Face, neck & décolletage $450

  • A medicare rebate may be accessed for clients with severe rosacea where redness is visible at 3 metres.

Non-Ablative Fractionated Laser (ResurFX)

ResurFX is a non-invasive laser therapy that penetrates deep layers of the skin to induce collagen remodelling. This improves skin texture by reducing the appearance of fine lines, pores, scars and stretch marks.  It is suitable for the lines around the mouth and eyes, neck, chest and other body areas. Our Resurfx laser is especially useful to treat acne and surgical scars, stretch marks and for general skin rejuvenation.

Non ablative Fractionated Laser treatments have  less downtime compared to traditional fractionated treatments and most people return to work after a few days - perfect for a Thursday or Friday treatment.

Special Considerations

  • It is essential you avoid tanning products and sun exposure for the 2 weeks leading up to and after your treatment.

  • If you have had a cold sore in the treatment area we advise using antiviral medication before and after your treatment. Talk to us about this before your appointment.

  • We often advise combining with PRP for improved recovery and skin rejuvenation.

  • We advise at least 2 weeks of prescribed skin care before and after your treatment to enhance efficacy and recovery. Avoid active skin care for the week after your Resurfx, we will advise you on a suitable skin treatment during our consultation

Vascular Laser

Multispot NdYag laser specifically targets red pigment and small vascular structures such as leg veins, cherry angiomas, telangiectasia (dilated blood vessels), rosacea and capillaries.

After the laser has broken down the blood vessel, the red pigment is cleared by your immune cells and lymphatic system. Some vessels disappear almost immediately while others, such as those on the legs, can take up to 12 weeks to clear.

Several sessions are required for full treatment.

Procedure Time
We book in 15-30 minute blocks.

Recommended Plan
This varies with individual needs - Monthly for facial vessels, leg veins every 6-10 weeks.

At least 2 weeks prior to a special event.

Downtime / Aftercare
Redness and bruising are common.

  • Up to 15 minutes: $125

  • 15 - 30 minutes: $225

  • Spot Treatment: $50 (if additional to another laser treatment)

A medicare rebate may be accessed for clients with congenital vascular lesions e.g. port wine stains, vascular birthmarks. Your suitability for this will be assess during your consultation.

Laser Tattoo Removal

Q switched NdYag laser works well for dark tattoo removal. This type of laser uses ultrashort pulses to target dark pigment, causing the colour pigments to vibrate, heat up and break into small particles. These particles are then naturally dissolved by your body’s immune system, leaving the surrounding skin intact.

It takes time to remove a tattoo, do not expect immediate results! Amateur tattoos will fade more quickly and may be erased in a few sessions.

Special Considerations

  • Avoid tanning products and sun exposure for 2 weeks before & after your treatment

  • Not suitable if pregnant or breastfeeding or for very dark skin

  • Suitable for dark tattoo colours only

  • Tattoo removal requires local anaesthetic, which we compound ourselves to ensure the best result. In addition, Dr Grant can inject local anaesthetic into the area prior to you treatment.

Procedure Time
Procedure is brief - A few minutes for a small tattoo. Allow 1 hour for topical anaesthetic, you can apply this yourself for repeat treatments.

Recommended Plan
Sessions every 4 – 10 weeks depending on the site.

At least 2 weeks prior to a special event.

Downtime / Aftercare
Post treatment your tattoo area will need to be managed carefully to avoid infection. We will give you information on this.
