Intense Pulsed Light (IPL/BBL) for hair reduction
IPL offers a safe and effective approach to hair reduction for long-term smooth skin.
At Thrive Skin Clinic we use a high quality TGA approved dermatology laser. It’s medical grade, and our results reflect this. All of our nurses and technicians are certified in IPL and laser safety and have a cautious and responsible approach to treatment.
We are able perform IPL on all areas of the male and female body, but there are certain restrictions for darker skin types. And unfortunately those stubborn post- menopausal white hairs won’t respond to the is treatment.
Please call the clinic on 0404 123 781 to discuss pricing and treatment options.

Procedure Time
Depending on treatment area, this could take anywhere from 10 minutes to 45 minutes.
Recommended Plan
We may advise an Initial patch test depending on the treatment area and the your skin type. IPL is done every 2-6 weeks for 6-10 sessions depending on the area being treated and your hair type. Clients often return annually for a top up treatment.
Planning
Plan your treatment at least a week before a special event.
Downtime / Aftercare
Expect redness and swelling for up to 48 hours post treatment. Dark hairs may increase after treatment and then fall off after a few weeks.
Special considerations
The area being treated must be completely hair free. Please shave the night prior to treatment. DO NOT pluck or wax the hair or the treatment will not work.
For your first visit, please leave a small patch of hair unshaven so we can check the colour and thickness.
AVOID ALL tanning products & sun exposure for 2 weeks leading up to and after to your treatment. Our machine is attracted to the pigment in the hair follicle, so in order for it to work, we need lighter skin and a darker hair follicle. Your skin has a chance of burning if you are tanned.
IPL treatments are not suitable for women who are pregnant. If you are breast feeding, you will need to see one of our medical staff for a brief review. There is no evidence that laser and light therapies are unsafe during breast feeding, but hormones can increase the risk of pigmentation complications.
If you have had roaccutane in the last 12 months and you wish to have treatment, we will do a test patch and you will need to discuss this with our doctor.
